New York : Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari told his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai that the two countries need to tackle together the issues of militancy, terrorism, narcotics trade and illiteracy.

Meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly summit in New York, the two leaders Thursday night exchanged views over the stability and prosperity of Afghanistan, Geo News reported Friday.

“Pakistan believes that the destinies of the people of the two countries were intertwined, and the two neighbours who are linked with historic, cultural and religious bonds should work together in confronting the shared challenges and issues,” the Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Zardari as saying.

Zardari said militancy, terrorism, narcotics trade, illiteracy and less economic opportunities were among the main issues faced by the two countries, but that they “must join hands” to overcome them.
