Kolkata: While supporting democracy at college and university campuses, intellectuals at a seminar here were of the view that political parties should refrain from intervening in campuses. They also demanded a Laxman Rekha for students so that in the name of democracy they do not get involved in violence.
Speaking at the seminar on ‘Campus Democracy’ organized by West Bengal unit of Campus Front of India on 25th September here at Muslim Institute Hall, Journalists, Social Activists and Writers all vowed support for democracy of students but with the rider that such democracy should not violate rules and laws. They called for a violence free campus, where all students could focus on their better future.

Executive Editor of Urdu daily ‘Azad Hind’ and Bengali Daily ‘Kalom’, Ahmed Hassan Imran said College or University is very important place for students. Students will be the leader of future of the country. He was of the view that democracy of the students should not be controlled by politics and college campus should not be a political platform of a political party.
Writer Abu Rida said, Government always tried to control college as per their views, this disrupts the democracy of the students. Students should not get involved in the politics. Also College or University should not be influenced by the ruling political party. He said, a few years ago a Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University Dr Santosh Bhattacharya wanted campus free from politics. He could not enter the University campus due to agitation by the politically backed students, which is very harmful for the students life. Students should not be controlled by political party, he thinks.
Editor of a Weekly Newspaper Emdadul Haque Noor said, Students should have right in their campus, but should not cross the limit. Students & Teacher should maintain son-father relation, then total society will be benefited. But now political party is controlling Students Union which is breaking the norms and disturbing the peace inside the campus.
State General Secretary of SDPI Advocate Anisur Rahman said, Students should have right to show their protest, agitation. If they need some facilities to improve the study they can demand in proper way. Students should have aim for life.
Leader of the Prisoner Relief Committee Choton Das said, politically backed Student Union now badly dominates the students culture which is not good for future of students. Because present student is to be future leader of our country, so, students should never be pressurized by the political. They should be allowed to go their own way and should get their democracy.
State President of Popular front of India Md Sahabuddin, State President of Campus Front of India Aminul Islam, Central Committee Member of Campus Front of India Enamur Rahman, Hakikul Islam, Ahsanul Bari, Journalist Matiur Rahman, Helaluddin and many other personalities were also present at the seminar.
