Applauds for Gauri-Nainika’s all white collection at WIFW

New Delhi: For all those who hesitate dressing up in white from top to bottom for different reasons, designer duo Gauri and Nainika Karan’s latest collection showcased at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) can force them to have second thoughts.

The Delhi-based sisters, who are famous for their feminine gowns, showcased their collection Tuesday on the fourth day of WIFW. Both grew up watching old Hollywood films and usually design clothes with a very old world, classic, chic feel to them.

Inspired by the royal ascot, their collection evoked a feeling of romantic nostalgia.

“The inspiration started with the royal ascot and we always wanted to do an all white creation. We have always admired Cecil Beaton’s work when he designed the black and white creations in the 1964 musical ‘My Fair Lady’. We loved it since we were kids. That is how this collection has come up,” Gauri told reporters after the show.

Rendered in pure ivory, the collection was created in lean silhouettes with dramatic highlights. The styles were made in heavy weight micro-crepe infused with organza in layers, bold ruffles and intricate textures with a dash of black appearing in some places.

The music and two white spots lights following the model every time she walked the ramp were the high points and created a lot of drama during the show. With show jam-packed, friends and family were there to cheer up the duo. The audience just could not stop applauding their creation.

The price range varied from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 200,000.

Talking about the cuts and no accessory used, Nainika said: “The whole collection is very glamours. The style is very classy and edgy. We wanted to keep it very clean and wanted to create drama only with the clothes. Using no accessories was (a) conscious decision because we wanted the garments to speak for themselves.”
