45,000 British students to retake exams

BY IANS,

London: Over 45,000 students in Britain will retake their secondary school examinations for English language following a row over how the papers were marked.

The students applied for the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) test after reports said grades were hit by examiners using tougher than expected criteria, The Sun reported.

Pupils were offered the chance to retake their paper following a probe by examination watchdog.

Hundreds of schools saw a large fall in the number of pupils receiving at least a C in this year’s examinations.

“It is a gross injustice that this vast number of students is being subjected to a re-sit when this is not their fault,” Brian Lightman of the Association of School and College Leaders was quoted as saying.
