Baddi (Himachal Pradesh) : BJP leader Sushma Swaraj Thursday slammed the Congress-led UPA government for what she termed “mudslinging to tarnish the reputation of BJP party president Nitin Gadkari and deviate the attention of people from corruption within the ruling party”.
Addressing an election rally in this industrial town, Sushma Swaraj said, “Mega scams like the Commonwealth Games scam, coal-gate and 2G have damaged the image of the Congress, and it is now indulging in mudslinging to tarnish the image of BJP president Nitin Gadkari.”
Defending Gadkari, she said he did not react like Congress leader Virbhadra Singh, who threatened to break the cameras of mediapersons, but faced the press and categorically stated that “he is ready to face probe by any agency”.
Sushma Swaraj, who has been campaigning for the BJP in the state, expressed surprise that Virbhadra Singh, who was made to resign from the union cabinet after charges were framed against him in a graft case (in Himachal Pradesh), was selected by the Congress to lead the party campaign for the state assembly polls. The elections are due on Nov 4.
