Three Maoists held, tiffin bomb found

Raipur : Chhattisgarh Police arrested three Maoist insurgents Tuesday from the jungles of Koilibeda area in Kanker district, which is part of a sprawling Maoist hotbed in Bastar region.

“A joint team of Chhattisgarh Police and Border Security Force arrested three Maoist insurgents during a combing operation in a jungle stretch between Jamdi and Gotanj,” Kanker Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat told reporters.

The Maoists have been identified as Sarjuram Mandavi, 23, Mahesh Usendi, 20 and Jhaduram, 30. They were wanted by Kanker Police for their alleged involvement in at least six terror attacks since 2009.

In a separate drive in the same district, a joint team of the district police and Central Reserve Police Force troopers recovered a 5 kg tiffin bomb from a road.

Bastar region, which is made up of seven districts, has been put on high alert as President Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to visit the region Wednesday.
