Milan : Lazio have improved their standings in the Italian Serie A through a 2-0 win over visiting Catania.
With the win Saturday, Lazio now have 17 points from 15 games and trail one point adrift Catania, AC Milan, Napoli and Palermo, who play a late game against 24-point Fiorentina.
Catania fell behind shortly after missing their best chance in the game as a header from Christian Terlizzi on six minutes bounced off the bar above the frozen veteran goalkeeper Marco Ballotta.
Two minutes later, his counterpart Ciro Polito tried a desperate dive, but failed to slap the downward header from Tommaso Rocchi.
The striker is now Lazio’s best scorer with five goals along with Macedonia’s Goran Pandev, who came on after the break and scored a goal with one minute to go.
Catania’s final efforts were thwarted with five minutes left as striker Gionatha Spinesi received his marching orders for insulting the referee.
