Uttar Pradesh to revive sports quota in jobs

By IANS,

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Friday said his government would soon find a way to revive the sports quota in government jobs.

The quota was done away by the previous Mayawati government.

“The quota will be revived and honour to sportspersons will be given in abundance,” Yadav said at the inauguration of a senior national wrestling championship in Gonda.

He also said that efforts would be made to encourage sports in rural areas.

The chief minister said Samajwadi Party (SP) had always held sportsmen fondly and that party president Mulayam Singh Yadav had always held wrestlers in high esteem.

The chief minister also met Olympics medial winners Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt and vice president of Hungarian National Wrestling Federation.
