Mumbai: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday visited the Asian Heart Institute (AHI) here and inaugurated its new sixth floor.
The visit coincided with the AHI’s 10th anniversary celebrations at its sprawling premises in Bandra-Kurla Complex in central Mumbai.
The AHI is headed by renowned cardiac surgeon Ramakant Panda, who had performed a complex redo-bypass on Manmohan Singh in January 2009.
While Manmohan Singh inaugurated the sixth floor, his wife Gursharan Kaur threw open the state-of-the-art Robotic & Minimally Invasive Surgery Operation theatre in the AHI.
Present on the occasion were Governor K. Sankaranarayanan, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Health Minister Suresh Shetty and union minister Rajiv Shukla.
Panda expressed his deep gratitude to the prime minister for his gesture of visiting the hospital on its 10th anniversary.
