Hyderabad: Hyderabad police have arrested two rag-pickers for a series of burglaries in the temples during the last few weeks.
Police said the duo committed 18 temple burglaries.
The theft in Mahakali temple at Lal Darwaza and other temples in the communally sensitive old city of Hyderabad had triggered tension.
According to a statement from the police commissioner’s office Friday, the team formed by the Central Crime Station arrested 22-year-old Mohammad Hussain Ali and 35-year-old Shaik Hyder.
Police recovered a part of the stolen property, which included about two kg silver ornaments/utensils and some gold ornaments.
Efforts were on to locate those who received other stolen property.
The investigations revealed that the two men would carry out a reconnaissance of the area and narrow down on targets, then commit the burglaries between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., often breaking locks open.
