Kolkata : The opposition Left Front Wednesday charged the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal with vitiating the educational environment and distorting the learning system in the state.
“The environment in schools and colleges for the last one-and-half years is not at all conducive for education. Fear psychosis has gripped parents sending their children to schools as they are worried over the vitiated atmosphere there,” state Left Front chairman Biman Bose said at an event of teachers’ associations here.
“During the Left Front’s rule the government had tried to maintain a healthy environment at educational institutions, from universities to schools, and was successful. In the current dispensation the atmosphere is again getting vitiated,” Bose said at a rally organised by the All Bengal Primary Teachers’ Association.
For the past few months, the state saw incidents when a group of students attacked a college and its principal, while another college principal fainted during a siege by student unions.
Bose also accused Mamata Banerjee’s government of emulating the Congress-led UPA government’s policy to privatise the education sector.
“UPA-II government is taking several steps to privatise the education sector, from varsities to schools. And the Trinamool Congress government here is also trying to privatise the sector in the state,” he added.
