Panaji : Goa has the potential to become a higher education hub like Boston in the US, Goa Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo said.
Speaking at a higher education summit in Panaji Thursday on “Improving Quality of Higher Education to Drive Goa’s Economy”, Wanchoo said that the state should set up centres of excellence and research in niche areas besides also setting up an integrated educational complex that can help to create skills to participate in the new media like animation, graphics, cyber security etc.
“Goa should become a major educational hub of the country, provided we take the right steps coupled with proper determination and rise above narrow political and parochial considerations to see Goa as the Boston of India,” Wanchoo said.
Boston, on the eastern coast of the US, is globally one of the leading centres of higher education and has more than 100 colleges and universities.
“Goa can emerge further in textiles or product design and films. These are all areas that would be of interest to Goan youth,” he said.
