Agra: Ahead of a CII global partnership summit beginning Sunday, the Taj city looked thoroughly spruced up on the occasion of India’s Republic Day Saturday.
The main crossings on Mahatma Gandhi Road and the Yamuna Kinara Road were decked up with the national tricolour fluttering while loud-hailers blared patriotic filmi numbers.
Schools and colleges reported heavy turnout of students to mark the occasion.
Archbishop Albert d’Souza presided over the main function at St Peter’s College where several Catholic institutions collectively celebrated Republic Day.
District Magistrate Ajay Chauhan unfurled the tricolour. A cycle race was flagged off at the Eklavya Stadium by Magistrate Raj Kumar.
At the Police Lines, Transport Minister Aridaman Singh took the salute and unfurled the tri-colour.
Agra Mayor Inderjeet Arya unfurled the flag at the municipal corporation while district judge Sunil Kumar Gupta hoisted the flag at the civil courts.
The School for the Blind at Awas Vikas Colony held a flag hoisting event and a musical function by blind students.
