Hyderabad : Enthused by its success in Nizamabad, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to implement the Integrated Land Information System (ILIS), aimed at digitising land records, in another five districts.

The unique project christened Bhu Bharathi was successfully implemented on a pilot basis in Nizamabad district. The government has now decided to extend it to Kadpa, Anantapur, Karimnagar, Srikakulam and Nellore districts.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy told a meeting of officials held to review the implementation of the programme that it would be extended to the five districts in the current financial year and the entire state in the next financial year.

The state government last year embarked upon this massive programme of computerization of all age-old land records through ILIS. It hopes ILIS would find a solution to all disputes relating to land in the state.

The project is aimed at compiling all details of land and its titles that would enable the authorities to have a comprehensive report of any title with ‘one click’ of the mouse.

The ILIS would be useful not only to agriculture land markings but to industrial, commercial and landed properties in towns. Minister for Revenue Dharmana Prasad Rao told newspersons that the project was estimated to cost Rs.15 billion.

The meeting discussed issues like required technical staff, various options for mobilization of funds and procedure for calling tenders for aerial photography, Rao said.

The chief minister said that the central government was keenly looking at the results in Andhra Pradesh in order to replicate it in other states.

Under the programme launched last year in Nizamabad, survey of agricultural land has been completed in 266 villages covering 12 mandals (village blocks). Land maps were distributed among land holders calling for objections. The authorities have so far resolved nearly 4,000 objections. A survey of agricultural, village and urban land has been taken up in the district.
