Kolkata : A Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) activist, believed to be a close aide of Jibon Singha, the outfit’s chief, was arrested from West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, police said Monday.
“Kundanlal Singha, a close aide of Jibon Singha, was arrested late Sunday night from Kharibari in the district. A court today (Monday) remanded him to three days’ police custody,” Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Kunal Aggarwal said.
Singha is the third KLO activist to be arrested this year. Police had arrested Uttam Roy from Cooch Behar in January and Pradip Burman alias Raghu from Alipurduar earlier this month.
A separatist outfit, the KLO has been demanding a separate Kamtapur state comprising six districts – Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North and South Dinajpur and Malda – of West Bengal and four contiguous districts of Assam namely Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Goalpara.
