Guwahati : A mentally-imbalanced patient in Assam Wednesday beheaded a quack, who had been treating him for years without success, police said. He later carried the victim’s head to a police station and surrendered.
Mekudin Tero beheaded his neighbour and quack Lakhan Sorey at Dolohat village under Laluk Police station in Lakhimpur district, around 350 km from Guwahati.
After the murder, the accused surrendered in Laluk police station, police said.
Both the victim and the murderer belonged to the Tea tribe community, one of the backward communities of the state, police said.
Superintendent of Police Prashanta Bhuyan said Tero was arrested and a murder case was registered.
“Tero, with the head of Sorey, and the axe in his hand walked into the Laluk police station, located about 1.5 km from the village,” an area resident said.
“Tero admitted that he had killed Sorey to settle some old scores,” said Bhuyan.
“He (Tero) seemed mentally imbalanced,” Bhuyan said.
