Kolkata : Lamenting the dearth of good story writers in Bollywood, veteran actor Dharmendra, best known for his performance in the National Award winner “Satyakam”, Saturday here said that every politician should watch the Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed 1969 classic.
“I think telling the truth has stopped today. In ‘Satyakam’ I told the truth and it was a very good story. I think every politician should see the film.
“Good films are being made but characters like those in ‘Satyakam’ and ‘Bandini’ are no longer there in our country,” Dharmendendra said at a media conference at the PVR Cinemas, Avani Riverside Mall in Howrah Saturday.
Best known for films like “Sholay” and ‘Satyakam’, the actor was in Kolkata promoting his forthcoming film, Sangeeth Sivan’s comedy drama “Yamla Pagla Deewana 2” (YPD) – a sequel to the original.
“Story-writers are not penning such stories and screenplays are also not like that of earlier days. I would be grateful to you people if you can get me some good writer like that and which suits today’s people,” said Dharmendra.
YPD2 slated to release June 7, stars Dharmendra with his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol in the lead. Giving them company on-screen are leading ladies Neha Sharma and debutant Kristina Akheeva.
Agreeing with his father, Sunny Deol, critically-acclaimed for films like “Arjun” and “Ghayal” said” “We do not have those kind of directors and there are just a handful of them.
“Obviously Indian cinema is a reflection of the country so whatever’s is happening around is basically what is seen in the cinema. We want to entertain and we can only give what people want and that’s what’s happening.
“So if people desire for something good and if there are writers out there who want to get deep-rooted into the country obviously we would make those films and I would love to them,” he added.
