Aligarh: Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Jitin Prasada today launched a website for online admission of students in distance education mode and released a journal on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Distance Education Centre of the Aligarh Muslim University at Kennedy Auditorium.
Jitin Prasada also inaugurated the Indoor Badminton Hall at University Games Committee premises.
Addressing the silver jubilee celebration, Prasada assured the AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. General (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah that he would ‘favorably respond’ to the University’s request for establishing a Unit of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) at AMU and will also try his best to create an Examination Centre in the University for Staff Selection Committee.

Prasada said that the Union Government was aware that major need of the country today was to provide “Access, Equity and Quality” to rapidly growing aspiration of the youth of this country and India was becoming the capital force of ‘productivity’.
Union Minister of State for HRD, Prasada highlighted the role of Distance Education in determining the future education policy of the country. He said that the gender, class and religion imbalances will be removed through distance education. He urged the university authorities to provide live virtual class facility and new courses be started for skill development in Distance Education.
He said that the youth of this country wanted quality education at an affordable cost, as they were facing challenges on two levels, education and employment. He said that Distance Education also had to cater to these essential demands.
Prasada said that he had mooted a proposal for an interactive session with AMU students for an effective feedback for drawing up the country’s future education policy. He said that AMU was a very prestigious University and had played an important role in nation building.
He also praised the working of the present Vice Chancellor, Lt. General Shah and urged the students and staff of the University to lend him support for the development of this great national institution. He assured the University that MHRD would provide all types of support for infrastructure development.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. General Zameer Uddin Shah said that this University alone cannot cater to the educational need of all, hence, the Centre for Distance Education will cater to the educational need of the down trodden and marginalized section of society by providing quality education on an affordable cost.
The Distance Education centre of AMU was established in 1988 to provide education in distance mode to underprivileged section of society, and today 35 centres had been established across the country providing education in twelve courses.
