Abu Dhabi : Some 400 Haj pilgrims duped by unscrupulous travel agents and stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been rescued and helped to complete their pilgrimage by a charity foundation, WAM news agency reported Monday.
UAE’s Khalifa bin Zayed Charity Foundation announced Sunday that it would pay the travel expenses of the pilgrims hailing from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Mecca and Medina to perform Haj as well as their return to the UAE en route to their countries.
“The Foundation pledged to provide all means of comfort to the needy pilgrims who spent their savings and endured all hardships to obey the cal for Haj,” a release said.
It added that each of the pilgrims would also be given pocket money.
