Lahore : Pakistani Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Nisar A. Memon said on Wednesday that journey of peace initiated by Jesus Christ centuries ago would continue.
He said this while addressing the Annual Christmas Dinner at Cathedral Church .
Memon said the peace journey that ensured human dignity, security, fraternity, equal rights and a happy life was, however, disrupted by some brutal forces several times but it had to be continued.
He said creation of Pakistan had renewed this sacred journey and all the minorities including Christians endorsed Quaid-e-Azam’s efforts for a separate homeland where all of them could practice their religious tenets freely.
“Our Constitution, like Islam, ensures equal rights to all the segments of the society and the minorities and white part of our national flag represents the minorities,” he added.
The minister said Pakistan’s ultimate destination is to ensure provision of security and honour to people irrespective of their cast, creed and social status.
Unfortunately, he said, some vested elements were trying to destroy the journey of peace, inter-faith harmony and brotherhood in Pakistan through tyrannical measures and terrorism.
Nisar A. Memon said terrorism is an international menace and terrorists have no religion, adding that all the divine and other religions reject terrorism in all its manifestations.
He said President Pervez Musharraf included the minorities groups in the mainstream electoral college of the country, besides reserving minority seats in the National Assembly so as to further secure their rights.
Nisar A. Memon further said Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had initiated the nuclear programme of the country and Mian Nawaz Sharif took the same to its peak by conducting the nuke explosions in years 1998 but President Pervez Musharraf ensured its safety by establishing the Command and Control Authority.
Pakistan is now at that stage of economic development that next government will very easily take it forward on the path to progress.
The minister said, “Let me on behalf of myself, President, Prime Minister and the cabinet wish you merry Christmas and happy new year.” He also presented in advance the Eidul Azha greetings to the Muslim community.
Earlier, the federal minister along with other prominent guests cut the Christmas cake and lit the Peace Candle.
