Heavy rains expected to lash Mumbai, Konkan from Wednesday

Mumbai : Coastal Maharashtra is expected to be lashed by heavy rains over the next two days, weather officials said here Tuesday.

The development is consequent to the formation of a low-pressure area over west central Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas.

This will result in an increased rainfall activity over central and coastal Maharashtra and Goa over the next 48 hours (Wednesday and Thursday).

“Heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder, is expected to occur at isolated places in all the districts of the Konkan and south-central Maharashtra during next two days,” Indian Meteorological Department Mumbai Director V. K. Rajeev told IANS.

Meanwhile, official sources said that all emergency control centres, disaster control rooms and media have been alerted on the developments.

After a lull of nearly a fortnight, monsoon activity has resumed in Mumbai, and other parts of the state in the past couple of days, hitting the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations.

Some parts of central Mumbai experience waterlogging Monday following heavy showers, with isolated rains drenching many other parts of the state.
