Senior editors from South Asia and other regions to participate in a conference in Jamia

    New Delhi: The AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC), Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace & Conflict Resolution (NMCPCR) of Jamia Millia Islamia, and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are jointly organizing a Regional Conference 2013 for “Senior Editors” on “Violence & Conflict Reporting: Media Debates its Role” on October 8-9, 2013.

    The Inaugural Session of the Conference is scheduled to be held on October 8, 2013 at 10 AM in Edward Said Hall, Administrative Block, Jamia Millia Islamia.

    Salman Khurshid, Hon’ble Minister for External Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi shall be the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Function. He will also make his remarks in the inaugural session. Prof. S.M. Sajid, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia will deliver the Inaugural Address on this occasion.

    Florian Westphal, Deputy Director, Communication, ICRC will deliver the Welcome Address whereas Prof Obaid Siddiqui, Director, MCRC would make the Opening Remarks.

    The Conference is spread over three technical sessions for broad deliberations. The broad areas are:

    October 8, 2013 from 10.45 AM onwards

    1) “Reporting Armed Violence/War: The Balancing Act”

    Chair: Pamela Philipose, Director and Editor-in-Chief, Women’s Feature Service

    2) “Reporting Armed Violence/War: Issues and Challenges”

    Chair: Bharat Bhushan, Senior Editor

    October 9, 2013 from 09.30 AM onwards

    3) “The Changing Media Landscape: Mapping the Scenario”

    Chair: Madhuker Upadhyay, Senior Editor

    The speakers shall include representatives from various electronic media houses, newspapers, magazines, etc. from within the country and Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iran, Australia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Maldives. Apart from the above, a number of important dignitaries from India and abroad shall participate in the Conference.

    The Conference will come to an end on October 9, 2013 at 12 Noon with the concluding remarks by Mr. Marek Resich, Communication Coordinator, New Delhi Regional Delegation, ICRC and concluding speech by Prof. Obaid Siddiqui, Director, AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia.
