Aligarh: “Mathematics is a science of all sciences and art of all arts”, said Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University. He was addressing the inaugural function of International Conference on ‘Recent Trends in Algebra and Analysis with Applications’ organized by Department of Mathematics under the UGC-DRS (II) programme.
Presiding over the programme, Lt Gen Shah said that in modern age of science and technology, emphasis is given on science such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine and Engineering and these sciences cannot survive without Mathematics. He said that all these sciences owe their progress to Mathematics.

Quoting famous philosopher Kant, Gen. Shah said that “a science is exact so far it employs Mathematics”. He described India’s contribution to Mathematical world and said there were a number of inventions owing their origin to Indian mathematicians. He said that it was Indian Mathematician Aryabhatta who contributed the concept of zero as a number.
Chief Guest, Prof Feyzi Basar, Fatih University, Istanbul, Turkey said that his country has a long association in research with this Department and has been benefitted from the work of Prof ZU Ahmad (Retd) and Prof Mursaleen, a leading Mathematician in the field of Summability. He said that it is his second visit to the department and it is one of the best Departments of Mathematics around the world. Prof Basar said that this conference will provide a platform to the mathematicians from all over the globe to discuss the nuances of Mathematics.
Prof Mohd Mursaleen, Coordinator, DRS Programme said that the department has been recently awarded DRS programme for a period of five years with a sanction of Rs. 60 lakh. He said that the conference is first one in a sequel.

Prof Mahshar Raza, Dean, Faculty of Science also addressed the inaugural session. Prof Zafar Ahsan, Chairman, Department of Mathematics conducted the programme. Prof M Imdad, Convener of the Conference welcomed the guests and Dr NM Khan, Co-convener of the conference proposed the vote of thanks.
Delegates from USA, Turkey, Japan, Hungary, Silovenia and from all over the country are participating in the three day conference.
