‘Ensure representation of minorities in civil services’

New Delhi : Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Friday called upon the academic fraternity to ensure adequate representation in civil services for minorities, the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, and backward classes .

“One of the strengths of the constitution is the principle that guarantees equality and fraternity leading to affirmative action,” Jung said after inaugurating the academic building of the Residential Coaching Academy at Jamia Millia Islamia.

He lauded the efforts of the institution for promoting the cause of minorities.

Jung also interacted with students who figure in the list of successful candidates for the civil services main examination of 2013.

Jung, former vice chancellor of Jamia, told them about the importance of honesty, humility and truthfulness that “every individual needs to inculcate”.

Vice Chancellor S.M. Sajid praised Jung, saying he was instrumental in helping build the infrastructure at Jamia.

He said civil services aspirants should dedicate themselves to the creation of an egalitarian society.
