Newspaper editor indicted in Bangladesh

Dhaka : A senior journalist in Bangladesh has been indicted in a case filed over non-submission of his wealth statement to the the country’s anti-corruption commission.

Dhaka’s Third Special Judges Court Monday fixed May 28 for the hearing of the case against Amar Desh newspaper’s acting editor Mahmudur Rahman, bdnews24.com reported.

Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, state counsel, said the commission’s Deputy Director Nur Ahmed filed the case June 13, 2013.

Rahman was asked to submit his wealth statement April 19 last year. The case was filed after he failed to respond to the notice.

Mahmudur Rahman said he had been framed in a “false” case for publishing a report on his paper on the corruption of the prime minister’s son and energy advisor Tawfiq-E-Elahi.
