New Delhi : Culture and Tourism Minister Shripad Yesso Naik Wednesday asked officials to identify possible areas of convergence between the two ministries and highlight these before making a presentation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Coordination issues in existing projects should be sorted out and both ministries should take up new projects in which they can converge,” Naik said in a statement after chairing a meeting of senior officers of both ministries.
“Ministry of culture will sign memorandum of understanding with ministry of tourism and various state governments for improvement of visitor amenities at monuments and heritage sites,” the statement said.
“Tour operators will be allowed to set up counters at festival venues and both ministries will collaborate for food festivals,” it added.
It also mentioned both ministries will coordinate with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and a common calendar for road shows and festivals of India will be developed.
“Ministry of tourism’s ‘Clean India’ campaign will be implemented in monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India in a phased manner,” it said.
