Islamabad: Pakistani fighter jets killed 13 militants and destroyed seven hideouts during air strikes in Mirali area of the North Waziristan tribal region Saturday, a media report said.
The air raids followed a rocket attack on a checkpoint under control of security forces in Mirali town, Dawnonline reported citing the army’s Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.
Most of the terrorists killed in the strikes are foreigners, while a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also destroyed, the statement added.
The huge arms haul was made in the Khar Warsak and Zartangi tribal areas.
The details could not be independently verified as the access to media persons is severely restricted in the region, the report said.
Separately, three terrorists including one Uzbek were arrested from Boya area.
During the operation two suicide bombers were identified and chased but they blew themselves up when encircled close to Boya.
The Pakistani army launched its operation “Zarb-i-Azb” against militants in the tribal region a week after an attack on Karachi airport June 8.
