ICRC wants respect of humanitarian law in Gaza

Geneva: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Tuesday called on parties in the Gaza conflict to respect humanitarian law to ensure effective delivery of sustainable humanitarian efforts.

ICRC President Peter Maurer reiterated in a statement that parties in the conflict and the international community bear the collective responsibility for creating an environment conducive to sustainable humanitarian efforts, Xinhua reported.

Statistics show that in Gaza, over 2,000 Palestinian people have been killed and more than 10,000 wounded. Victims are mostly civilians, including children, women and elderly.

ICRC said it has pursued bilateral dialogue with the parties in the conflict, reminding them of their obligation under the laws of war to protect civilians and civilian objects, and to take care of the wounded.
