Hyderabad : Telangana has proposed 33 percent reservation for women in an attempt to improve female representation in the police force and to control crimes against women.
Director General of Police Anurag Sharma Monday said this would help the force ensure deployment of sufficient number of women personnel at each police station.
He proposed to reserve 33 percent vacancies in the civil police force, including at the level of sub-inspectors, and 10 percent in the armed reserve force for women.
Sharma told reporters that the move will ensure availability of women personnel for the help desk for women proposed at every police station in the state.
A task force constituted by the government to improve policing has suggested that a help desk be set up at every police station with women personnel to attend to the complaints by women.
The help desk will have a receptionist, a counsellor and one or two women constables.
The police force in the newly-created state currently has 8-9 percent women.
The police chief sought suggestions from the public to make the police force people-friendly and improve crime control, investigations, traffic management, and reduce crimes against women, children and the aged.
The department plans to appoint a legal advisor in each police station for better case recording, and filing of first information report (FIR).
It proposed to the government the allocation of Rs.25,000-75,000 every month for each police station towards investigation charges.
