Aligarh: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd.) said that he has been assured there would be no crowd at the University gate to celebrate Raja Mahendra Pratap’s 128th birth anniversary.
Gen. Shah had suggested that birth anniversary of Raja Mahendra Pratap could be organized at Raja Mahendra Pratap park near Tasveer Mahal. The concerned parties have accepted his proposal and assured that there will be no gathering outside the AMU Gate.
The Vice Chancellor has announced that the Aligarh Muslim University will organize a Seminar on Raja Mahendra Pratap’s contribution in freedom struggle as an academic activity. He said that the date of the seminar will be announced later on.
The controversy over Raja Mahendra Pratap’s birth anniversary celebrations inside the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) erupted after local BJP leaders announced intention to celebrate his birthday in the campus in a clear attempt of communalisation.
AMU vice chancellor Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd) had earlier written to Union HRD minister Smriti Irani to prevent “politicization of the birthday celebration issue.”
“Those who are creating a controversy today are not really interested in celebrating the life of Raja Mahendra Pratap. This is his 126th birthday, why is he suddenly being remembered by the communal fascist forces? Their aim is to polarize the society and create communal tensions in order to fulfill their vicious political interests. These are the same people who have always spread the poison of hatred and anarchy in our society, and today they are bringing their evil designs to destabilize our beloved AMU and spread chaos in this great institution,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, a student of AMU and President of Sir Syed Minority Foundation of India Md. Perwez Siddiqui has written a letter to the Prime Minister urging him to take “stern look on this grave matter and take a befitting action on this communal fringe of political leader.”
