Indians in Saudi capital pay tribute to Saiyid Hamid

By TCN News,

Riyadh (Saudi Arabia): Large number of dignitaries, scholars and people belonging to different spheres of life from among the Indian community attended a condolence meeting held here to pay tribute to the well known educationist and Jamia Hamdard chancellor Saiyid Hamid, who passed away on December 29 at Delhi, India.

“The death of Saiyid Hamid was no less than a tragedy for the entire nation. Selfless and gifted personalities such as Hamid seldom take birth in the history. Muslims can regain their lost glory and identity by treading the path he had shown to the Muslims to bring about an educational revolution,” activist Murshid Kamal, also the convener of the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) said at the meeting held at the IICC of this Saudi capital.

Terming the condolence meeting as an attempt to devise a concrete and robust plan to materialise Saiyid Hamid’s dream, Kamal said, “Soon under the chairmanship of Sirajuddin Qureshi, India Islamic Cultural Centre will hold in Delhi an International Educational Conference discussing the educational backwardness of Muslims. It will evolve long-term plan to eliminate educational backwardness plaguing the community. This will be the biggest tribute to Saiyid Hamid from us.”

Famous Indian businessman and director of Delhi Public School- Riyadh and Dunes International School-Dammam, Engineer Nadeem Tarin, recalled his long-standing ties with Saiyid Hamid.

“Saiyid Hamid was a loving teacher and a true architect; his heart beat for the people, he spent every moment of his life thinking about how to eliminate Muslims’ pain,” Tarin said, adding,

“Hamid exerted his efforts for publishing an English daily newspaper, for which he left no stone unturned, but he did not succeed. Likewise, his dream of establishing a science and technology university also did not see the light of the day.”

“It is our responsibility to materialise his dreams,” he said.

Recalling his meetings with Saiyid Hamid, educationist and former deputy director of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) Hasnain Zulqarnain said, “Saiyid Hamid was a liberal, an Islamist and a practical man; gifted with good moral character.”

Another Riyadh resident Akhtar Islam Siddiqui said Saiyid Hamid was an extraordinary personality, and birth of such figures is not repeated in the history.
