Under the directions of state President Maulana Mustaqeem Ahsan Qasmi, representatives from Malegaon unit of Jamiat visited Hadgaon and distributed Rs. 1, 30,000 amongst 34 different families of the riot victims.
Jamiat representatives also visited homes of the people arrested during violence who are struggling to secure their dear ones release from prison. The envoy assured them of constituting a legal cell for helping all those innocents who have been unnecessarily arrested by police during violence.
“We have helped 34 families irrespective of their religion because they are victims of unnecessary violence erupted due to some anti-national elements,” said Hafiz Abdul Hafiz, President of Nanded unit of Jamiat.
“We have also decided to provide legal help to these people in securing bail so that they can come out of prison and undertake their family responsibilities”, he added.
Hadgaon a town located in Nanded district of Maharashtra witnessed communal violence on February 13 after purported circulation of derogatory images of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on social media and mobile application by some anti-social elements.
Many shops and public properties were damaged on the fateful day and police had to impose curfew in the region so as to contain the violence.
Minority community had alleged police one sided action by arresting people belonging to their community only although their community had suffered maximum losses in the violence.
The communal violence in Hadgaon could have been prevented, said Gulzar Azmi General Secretary of legal cell of Jamiat, “if the complaint lodged with the authority could have been taken seriously but due to lackadaisical behaviour of police anti-social elements were not checked even after the circulation of derogatory images was brought to police notice”.
