Even when the people in Kashmir valley are yet to come over the devastating flood of October 2014, the nature’s fury struck again. Intermittent heavy rainfall since Friday, March 27, night lead to flooding of the Jhelum – which is flowing above danger mark – and its tributaries inundating large portions leaving Srinagar and surrounding areas in the grip of panic.
As on Tuesday, March 31, morning, several parts of the valley and even Jammu area were deluged leaving 10 dead and about the same number of people missing. Evacuation by disaster response force has started after the local authorities declared an official ‘flood situation’ in the valley, which environmentalists are claiming is equally bad or worse than October 2014.
