Ghaziabad police book woman sub-inspector for rioting

Ghaziabad : Ghaziabad police have booked a woman sub-inspector posted in Noida on charges of rioting, police said.

During a drive to clean drains before the monsoon, municipal authorities on Sunday night demolished a ramp built by accused sub-inspector Neeta Sharma over a drain in Rakesh Marg locality under Sihani Gate police station in Ghaziabad.

Local councillor Shekhar Tyagi said in his police complaint that she along with five-six people barged into his office after the demolition, slapped him and threatened him with dire consequences.

Tyagi also said that she snatched his gold chain to recover the cost of the ramp’s reconstruction and left.

“On his complaint, we registered a criminal case for rioting. Although the complainant councillor insisted on a case of robbery of his gold chain, we will probe the matter and add relevant sections of IPC if the allegation is found true,” said Sihani Gate police station inspector Ashok Shishodia.

Later, on Sunday night, sub-inspector Neeta Sharma too lodged a complaint, accusing the councillor of assaulting her with the intent to outrage her modesty.

“We have registered a case against the councillor too,” Shishodia said.

On Monday, a delegation of Samajwadi Party leaders met Ghaziabad SSP Dharmendra Yadav and apprised him of the sub-inspector’s actions.

“The SSP assured us of action against the erring police officer, and said he will write to his Noida counterpart for a departmental inquiry against her,” said Praveen Gupta, general secretary of the Samajwadi Party’s city unit.
