New Delhi: The Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, has proposed to establish a ‘Babu Jagjivan Ram Chair’ at the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
The Chair seeks to propagate the ideology and philosophy of Babu Jagjivan Ram, his vision to create a casteless classless society and to work towards achieving social justice for Dalits, the downtrodden and the weaker sections of the society.
The Chair will be fully financed by the Foundation, a release from Jamia said.
The University has initiated necessary efforts for the establishment of the Chair. “Babu Jagjivan Ram epitomized the struggle of the under-privileged in our society for social justice and life informed with dignity and honour. Jamia feels honoured to establish this Chair in memory of an illustrious son of India,” said Professor Talat Ahmad, vice chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia.
