Modi to visit Varanasi on July 16

Lucknow : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on July 16, officials said on Monday.

The prime minister was scheduled to visit Varanasi on June 28 to inaugurate a string of development projects, but the visit was cancelled due to heavy rains and water-logging.

Officials said that special arrangements are being made this time to ensure that even if the weather plays truant, the events which are scheduled to be attended by the prime minister are not disrupted.

Modi will be in Varanasi for over four hours on July 16, when he would be inaugurating the trauma centre at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), lay the foundation stone of ring road and kick-start the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS).

Officials told IANS that the prime minister will fly to Varanasi from Vishakhapatnam and after arriving at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International airport at Babatpur, he will take a chopper ride to the BHU campus.

After inaugurating the trauma centre, he will go to Dereka, where he would be kick-starting the IPDS and lay the foundation stone of the first phase of the widening of NH 56 – Varanasi-Babatpur road.

He will also lay the foundation stones for power sub-stations at Chowk and Kazzakpura and later address a public rally at Dereka.

He will also meet dignitaries, prominent people of Kashi and representatives of some NGOs at the airport’s VVIP lounge and later fly off to New Delhi.
