New Delhi : The Congress on Sunday warned of intensifying its stir across the national capital if the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi did not appoint an anti-graft ombudsman within 15 days.
“Delhi Congress will hold dharnas (sit-ins) in every assembly constituency and wards of Delhi if the Lok Pal is not constituted within 15 days,” Congress leader Ajay Maken said at a press conference.
In the run-up to the assembly polls, the AAP had promised to bring Jan Lok Pal bill to set up an ombudsman to probe corruption charges against politicians and government officials.
“In the absence of a Lok Pal, there is no proper forum to enquire about the corruption charges against the AAP Ministers and MLAs,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, scores of Congress workers, including Maken, protested in several parts of the city against the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government on the issue.
Addressing protestors at one place, Maken said the Kejriwal government was being “cagey” in constituting the Lok Pal.
“The Kejriwal government knows very well that if the Lok Pal is constituted, its own ministers and MLAs, accused of forged degrees, frauds and other crimes, would be the first to be in the dock,” the Congress leader said.
