Srinagar: The army intensified its operation against hiding guerrillas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday, a day after a commanding officer died during a search operation.
Helicopters and para-commandos have been pressed into service in Wanigah forests.
“The search operation has been spread over a large area to ensure that all escape routes of the terrorists are plugged,” an army source told IANS here on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Badami Bagh headquarters of army’s 15 Corps here to honour the martyred Colonel Santosh Mahadik who laid down his life fighting militants in the operation.
Lieutenant General D.S. Hooda, General Officer Commanding in chief (GOC-n-C) of the Northern Command paid tributes to the martyred officer.
Lieutenant General S.K. Dua, corps commander and other senior officers also laid wreaths.
