WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (KUNA) — Nicholas Burns, the No. 3 official at the U.S. State Department and the U.S. point man in diplomatic dealings with Iran, will resign to work in the private sector, sources reported on Friday.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was expected to announce Burns’ resignation later in the day.
Burns has served as U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs for nearly three years.
He was Permanent Representative to the Council of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from mid-2001 until early 2005. He was U.S. Ambassador to Greece from 1997 until mid-2001.
