Washington, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) The first US soldier on board a new sophisticated armored vehicle recently sent to the Iraq war by the Pentagon died on the weekend, confirmed military sources on Monday.
According to spokespersons from the Defense Department in this capital, the soldier lost his life when a roadside bomb struck the new MRAP vehicle, which was allegedly resistant to mines and protected against ambushes.
Experts recalled that the armored vehicle was built for millions so that its V-shaped shield deflects roadside bomb explosions, which have killed more American soldiers than any other Iraqi resistance offensive tactic.
The government of President George W. Bush ordered the sending of over 10,000 MRAP armored vehicles to that Arab country, with a cost of $21 billion.
