Lucknow : On Thursday early morning, UP Police’s special cell Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested two Muslim men from Bijnor district of Western Uttar Pradesh on suspected ISIS links. The operation was jointly conducted with a special cell of Delhi Police.
Apart from the Bijnor, similar kind of operation was conducted in Jalandhar of Punjab and Mumbai. Police of five states also accompanied the operation, officials said on Thursday.
UP ATS Chief Asim Arun said, “UP ATS conducted joint anti-terror raids in Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in coordination with police of the five states.”
Arun said that three persons have been arrested in Mumbai, Jalandhar and Bijnor for conspiring to carry out terror activities.
“The police is interrogating six other persons. Legal action will be taken on the basis of evidence,” he said.
The police had received information that some hyperactive members of a terror group were trying to recruit new members.
The operation was conducted with the help of the Special Cell of Delhi Police, Crime Investigation Cell of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra ATS, Punjab Police and Bihar Police.
But the reality of the arrest is going against the claims made by the Police. Locals from the Bijnor inform that ATS arrested two person Faizan and Tanveer from a mosque situated in Badapur, a town 50 kilometers from district headquarter. Police is insisting on the Arrest of only one person, which locals denied.
Sources claim that Faizan and Tanveer were arrested around 5 AM, while they were coming out of the mosque after Namaz. Local sources also inform that at least 4 Police vans came to arrest these two persons.
