Srinagar: At least eight civilians including two women suffered splinter injuries after the grenade lobed by militants towards a CRPF Bunker in Habba Kadal area missed the target and exploded on road side, here today.
Today’s grenade explosion in the heart of summer capital followed the escalation of violence activities by militants in last one week, disturbing the cooperatively peaceful atmosphere during initial months of the current year.
Sources quoting eyewitnesses told News Agency of Kashmir that unidentified militants hurled a grenade towards a CRPF Bunker of 137 Bn. at Habba Kadal this afternoon.
The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on road side causing injuries to eight civilians, sources added.
The explosion created panic in the area as people were seen running for the shelter. The injured were immediately shifted to the hospital.
Soon after the attack, CRPF and police contingents launched a man hunt to nab the militants. However, no arrests were made till the last reports came in.
Those injured in the explosion have been identified as Muhammad Yaqoob Khan son of Muhammad Maqbool Khan of Zaindar Mohalla, Bashir Ahmed Sheikh son of Abdul Ahad of Chinkral Mohalla, Parveena wife of Abdul Majeed Khan of Chinkral Mohalla, Seroz Ahmed Gassu son of Muhammad Ashraf of Qamarwari, Noora wife of Ghulam Ahmed Makka of Habba Kadal, Waseem Ahmed Cheeru son of Abdul Majeed of Barthan, Naseer Ahmed Dar son of Muhammad Sultan of Habba Kadal and Aashiq Hussain son of Abdul Gani of Chandpora.
