Three Sisters Marry Same Man, Claim Husband An Avatar

CHITRAKOOT (India), Jan 27 (Bernama) — It was like a script written for a movie but three sisters in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh played it out in real life — all marrying their male servant, saying he is the reincarnation of Lord Krishna who could bring wealth to save their suffering family.

The three educated brides — Shobha Patel, 25, who has a Master’s degree in History from Chitrakoot University, Pinky Patel, 23, who is a Bachelor of Arts graduate, and Rina Patel, 20 — married the same man, who had been working in their house for the last seven years.

The girls are believed to have married the illiterate servant, Kishan Soni, 32, on the advice of their father who also claimed that his son-in-law was a reincarnation and that he was prepared to marry off two other daughters to Soni as well.

Bhagwat Prasad, a social worker from Chingari, a non-governmental organisation advocating against superstitious practices, said Soni was the son of a Tantric master who often advised the girls’ father, Santhosh Patel, once a wealthy businessman who lost his wealth due to so-called ill luck.

“The Tantric master misled Patel to get his three daughters married to his son Soni. He foretold that if Patel’s daughters were married one by one the family would get treasures hidden inside the house,” Prasad told Bernama.

The marriages created an uproar in the village of Ranipurbhat, about five kilometres from Chitrakoot town in eastern Uttar Pradesh, but the young wives stood by their husband and said they were happily married.

The Indian newspaper Pioneer earlier reported that Soni married the three sisters within a span of four years and was also planning to marry their two other younger sisters to cure the family of its so-called bad luck.

But the girls’ uncle intervened and exposed the bizarre marriages.

“Our husband is an avatar of (Lord) Krishna. We are enjoying life with him. Let us live with him. Others should not interfere in our affairs,” the girls were reported to have told the media.

The police could not take any action as neither the family nor the girls are willing to lodge a complaint.
