Death toll rises to three in Baghdad blast

By Xinhua

Baghdad : The death toll from a roadside bomb explosion near a minibus in southeastern Baghdad on Monday rose to three, with 10 passengers wounded, an Interior Ministry source said.

“Our latest report said that three passengers were killed and ten others injured by the blast near a minibus,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Earlier, the source put the toll at a civilian killed and four injured when a roadside bomb struck a minibus carrying passengers in the al-Ghadeer neighborhood.

In a separate incident, police said that a huge fire broke out before dawn in Iraq’s central bank building in Rasheed Street in downtown Baghdad, but no human casualty reported.

The flames engulfed most of the four-story building, they said, adding that the fire was under control by the morning.

Violence continues in Baghdad despite the announcement by the U.S. and Iraqi officials about a steep drop of violence as a result of a major security plan aimed at checking the insurgency and sectarian strife in the capital.
