TwoCircles.net started its life as a daily news website when newspapers, magazines, and TV still dominated Indian media landscape. TCN was an attempt to be ahead of the curve and establish media presence on the platform that will dominate the future. We were right about the internet.
A decade ago, media was a glamorous job, money was pouring in and TV channels were churning out faster than you can say “special interest.” We established TCN as a non-profit because we believe that best journalism can happen when it is reader supported and free of corporate and political pressures. Now that some of India’s senior journalists are also establishing their own non-profit, we were right about the non-profit model of our funding.
For the last 11 years, you, the readers have given us your hard-earned money and we have spent it in a responsible way bringing hard-to-find stories from hard-to-get-to places, grooming journalists from the communities that we cover, not just telling stories but championing causes and leading campaigns for justice.
We are a still very lean operation but our mandate has grown. We want to cover more Muslim stories while we expand our coverage of Dalits and Adivasis.
We have come to a realization that we will engage more freelancers to cover stories and regions which are underserved. Freelancers will be from the area and community, therefore, they will be more attuned to the concerns of the community.
We have estimated $10,000 to cover freelancers fees and travel costs. Please help us reach that goal by Dec 31 and we promise to bring stories that matter and causes worth pursuing.
