New Delhi : Then police solved the more than month-old murder of an elderly woman in a plush south Delhi locality after they arrested three Bangladeshi nationals.
The police said Tuesday that they had arrested Mohammed Shabuddin, 27, Khokhan, 19, and Alamgeer, 19, Monday for the murder of 70-year-old Nishi Banga at her Greater Kailash-I home Dec 12 last year
Banga, who lived alone, was found murdered on the first floor of her house with her hands and legs tied with a dupatta (shoulder drape).
Then police recovered from them stolen cash worth Rs.9,000, a pair of gold ear tops, a gold ring and a gold locket, as well as a screw driver, a chopper and a muffler used in the crime.
“We found that some Bangladeshi nationals had recently left Delhi. So a team was sent to Taki Hasnabad border, West Bengal, to arrest Shabuddin. But it was found that he had already left for Kerala,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Anil Shukla said.
“In Kerala, we found that Shabuddin had prior information about police teams closing in, so he had moved to West Bengal. But this time, along with the Border Security Force and the local police we arrested him from Narayanpura village in 24-Parganas near the Indo-Bangla border,” Shukla added.
Shabuddin told the police that he along with his three other associates, Khokhan, Alamgeer and Aslam, had killed the woman and stolen the goods.
“Shabuddin disclosed that during his stay in a slum cluster in Delhi he had come across one Halima, who had worked in the house of Banga as a maidservant two months ago. Halima informed him that Banga lived alone and was rich,” Shukla told reporters. After getting more details from her, Shabuddin with his associates killed Banga, Shukla said.
The police arrested Khokhan and Alamgeer from Madanpur Khadar in south Delhi, and search is underway for Halima and Aslam, who are missing.
