Islamabad : The peace process between Pakistan and India will not be affected by the judicial crisis in the country, Pakistan's foreign ministry said Monday.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam told a weekly press briefing that discussions under the composite dialogue process between Pakistan and India are ongoing and are showing encouraging signs, stressing that current judicial crisis in the country will not come in its way, Online news agency reported.
Replying to a question, she said that the two neighbours have taken significant confidence-building measures (CBMs), adding that the Kashmir issue can be solved amicably if political leadership shows commitment.
Referring to the Pakistan visit of a delegation of Indian prisoners of war (PoWs), the spokesperson maintained that there were no Indian war prisoners in Pakistani jails.
She, however, added that there were 500 Pakistani civilians languishing in Indian jails. "We want their immediate release," she added.
The Indian families say that some 54 Indian Army men have been missing in Pakistan since 1971, when the two countries fought one of their three wars. They believe that Indian PoWs are in Pakistani jails and a 14-member delegation has been in Pakistan since last week to visit various jails.
