New Delhi : An Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-27 combat jet crashed Thursday but the pilot managed to eject to safety, an official here said.
“The crash occurred around 12.40 p.m. soon after the aircraft had taken off from the Hashimara air base (in West Bengal) on a routine training sortie,” an IAF spokesperson here said.
“The pilot managed to eject to safety. He has been located and has been administered first aid,” he added.
“The wreckage of the aircraft has also been located,” the spokesperson said, adding that a court of enquiry had been ordered into the accident.
This is the first crash of an IAF aircraft this year.
