Kabul : Police in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, surrounded the house of a former warlord for a short time on Sunday morning.
Former warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum’s house was surrounded by more than three dozen policemen.
Officials say Dostum’s men had kidnapped a man who previously worked as his secretary.
However, the police ended the siege after a short time without recovering the kidnappee or arresting Dostum or any of his men accused in the case.
Contacted for comments, Kabul police chief Mohammad Salim Ihsaas said they had been asked by the hi-ups to end the siege. Another official said the matter had been referred to the Ministry of Justice which will investigate the case against the warlord and his men through the senior judges.
“There will be judicial investigations into the case,” said the official.
Abdul Rashid Dostum is the strong commander from Shiberghan area in the northern region of Afghanistan.
During the jihad era in the country, Dostum remained loyal to the communist government against the mujahideen leaders. However, he switched over to the mujahideen’s side after the government started to show signs of trouble.
Dostum had left the country after the Taliban seized most of Afghanistan and returned to get his place in government after their overthrow.
The war-lord is presently serving as a ceremonial head of the armed forces and lives in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.
