New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday said that “global terrorist” and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who has been on India’s most wanted list for 15 years, is in Pakistan.
“Pakistan has been sheltering people accused of committing terrorist acts in India. Dawood Ibrahim, the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, is in Pakistan,” the investigating agency’s director Vijay Shankar said.
Dawood, the head of the organised crime syndicate D-company in Mumbai, was declared a global terrorist by the US in 2003. Dawood has been accused of organising and financing the Mumbai serial blasts in which 257 people were killed.
“We appeal to the international community to pressurize Pakistan to extradite Dawood to India,” Shankar added.
Dawood continues to be the subject of the Interpol’s Red Corner notice and also a special notice of the Interpol-United Nations Security Council.
Last year, the CBI wrote to Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) seeking its comments on reports about Dawood’s detention by authorities in Karachi after a gun battle.
Later, a Pakistan Interpol communication denied reports about his presence on its soil and his detention, saying “his presence in Pakistan is not substantiated”.
